ESTATE PLANNING
The "E" in BPE Law stands for Estate Planning. For most people, Estate Planning involves two issues: Probate avoidance and Estate Tax protection. Probate is the legal process to determine who gets your stuff when you die. But Probate is expensive, time-consuming, and open to the public. You can avoid this and save thousands of dollars with a revocable Living Trust. Not only that, for married couples a Trust can preserve Estate Tax exemptions and avoid taxes that run up to 35%. A well designed Estate Plan is centered around two documents: 1) the Trust which governs the management and ultimate distribution of your real and personal property; and 2) the Advanced Health Care Directive which is all about you as a person: who makes your health care decisions when you can't and what do they do with you when your gone. These are backed up with additional documents such as Wills, Powers of Attorney, etc. All together, they give you the comfort of assuring that your wishes are known and that your hard-earned assets will go to whom you desire.
